Scotland Fights Back

For 10 years, Scotland has been the poor cousin of the property world - shamed by the double-digit price growth of its English and Welsh counterparts.
But the payoff is that the canny Scots have emerged as battling survivors of the credit crunch with their housing market outperforming nearly all other UK regions in 2007, according to research by Knight Frank. Partner Stuart Black said: "It's always been a cautious market, but now its prudence is helping it stand up to problems dogging the rest of the UK.
"Getting a mortgage is easier as house prices are lower. Scotland hasn't been expose to the boom and bust of its neighbours as there is less market activity."
Scotland's reputation for slow and steady growth is drawing in the more cautious investors who populate today's marketplace.
