Young professional follows Glasgow's waterfront renaissance

As Glasgow continues to develop as one of Europe’s most vibrant cultural centres, it is no surprise that some of this generation’s most successful and stylish first-time buyers are choosing to base themselves here. Having embraced its industrial image, where ship building once dominated, Glasgow is finally taking advantage of its riverside location and inspiring a new wave of confident purchasers to move to the city.
Transformation that the Clyde waterfront
26 year old Laura McKenzie, an accountant for Pacific Quay based, Buro Happold Engineers, is one of many young professionals who have been attracted by the transformation that the Clyde waterfront is seeing.
Laura, who is able to cycle into work everyday along the river, decided to purchase a luxurious studio apartment at gh2o, one of the most sought-after addresses on the banks of the regenerated River Clyde, after she saw Glasgow’s exciting city centre edging itself closer to the area that now occupies the riverside.
Laura comments: “Having worked for one of Glasgow’s freshest and modern engineering companies for over a year now, I was familiar with the big changes that have been made to the face of the city over the last few years; with the waterfront renaissance being the biggest. With all of the new restaurants, bars and hotels that are planned, creating a dynamic new community down by the river, and many more planned over the next five to 10 years, I was keen to invest in it.”
Having studied Accountancy at Glasgow University previously, Laura has seen the transformation of the Clyde gain momentum and is confident that there are clear signs of physical and economic transformation that can put the River Clyde back at the heart of Scotland.
Laura continues: “Although the historical feel of the old shipyards still remains and there are plenty of ships which I can see from my apartment, the whole feel of the area has changed over recent years and it is currently a very exciting place to be. I love having friends over, just to sit on the balcony, having drinks and watching the world go by. Everyone is always really mesmerised by what a great place it is to be around.”
Comprising a selection of studios and one and two bedroom apartments, gh2o boasts a stylish collection of riverside homes, offering spectacular views across the River Clyde, over the city and towards the Campsie Hills. Embracing both city centre and waterside living, the contemporary apartments offer residents quality homes which have been meticulously designed with close attention to detail.
Laura continues: “I have worked hard to get where I am today, it took several years of intense studying and I wanted something as a reward for all of my efforts. My apartment at gh2o is definitely reward enough; I fell in love as soon as I saw it and I’ve now kitted it out with a real retro theme, including a bright red L-shaped sofa and lots of mirrored furniture, which I just love! There is a real community forming here and lots of my friends also live around the harbour so it is great being able to go over to each other’s for drinks.”
Range of buyers including young professionals and mature downsizers
gh2o’s enviable location and excellent range of properties have undoubtedly contributed to the wide appeal of this striking development, making it a truly attractive option for a range of buyers, including young professionals and mature downsizers wanting to enjoy all the lifestyle benefits that come with urban living.
